The only one I've ever found in my library failed to no end. It just had some 103130587318 pictures of incredibly shoujo bug eyes and almost nekkid people. They never correspond to what I want to draw, but I've never had much experience with them, so go figure.
all "how to draw manga" books are completely worthless garbage. you can develop your style without a book telling you how to
other technical artbooks can be pretty helpful for the fundamental stuffs (perspective, anatomy, etc) though you'll want to use them as supplements for drawing from life
oh ya computones is actually good cuz it tells you how to and what areas to shade. a great line of books is the style school books volume1,2,3and just released 4 from dark horse manga. top notch and pretty cheap, and in full color! i got them all but still trying to find vol 4
For me I think it's really nice for new artists since it talks about all about the basics like perspective, anatomy, etc. But when technical things are being discussed I think tutorials(like the ones here in DA) are more helpful than those. My brother has a full set of the 1st volume of how to draw manga but then again, we weren't able to understand it that much in the areas of inking and other difficult things in art(we didn't even use it, we only looked at it for maybe 1-4 times 4-5years ago until now).
Anyways, I think it depends on the one really using it Other References helps though(like magazines etc.) and observation, experimentation, patience and practice are really very Important when it comes to art and improvement (parts I'm not so good at -need to work on that )
Hope my comment is ok haha..XD

You know that one normal girl down the street that studies hard, has a lot of friends, everyone loves and fits in? Yeah... Thats not me .:Mariah PAN!C:.
I had how to draw couples and how to draw...uhm, I forget the other one. but it had a lot of different stuff in it. I found both of them to be helpful at the time because they gave me pose ideas and such (especially how to draw couples, because drawing two people interacting is something I needed a lot of work on)
I think a good idea might be to check them out from a library or just browse through them at a book store and see if you find anything you think could help you out, then decide from there if you want to purchase them!
oh yeah, and something I've found helpful lately are various tutorials I see people post on deviantart. there are a lot of good ones to be found here, and they're free!
I wouldn't say it would be a waste of time and money, I would say that it would be usefull, you can learn from it by reading it but at the same time you also need to practice on your own for more improvement.
